Bicycle Service

Piney Flats Bicycles and Fitness is a full service bicycle shop. We not only sale bicycles and accessories but we work on them too! No matter what your needs we have the mechanics and tools to meet your needs from just a basic safety check to a complete overhaul. Most repairs have a 1 to 2 day turn around time on them, but some can take longer if we need to order parts, or if we are at the peak of the riding season. Some of the specialty services that we offer are custom bicycle fitting, custom wheel building, tubular tire gluing, and suspension service.

Custom Bicycle Fitting

The most important part of purchasing a bicycle is making sure that it fits right. We have the knowledge and experience to fit you to a new bike properly, or modify the fit on your old bike. If you are unsure if your bike fits you properly or not, load up your bike and bring it by for a fit evaluation. We also do bike fitting for custom bikes as well. We like to make appoinments for fittings, but we will take walk-ins when we can. Please plan on fitting sessions to take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on how busy we are and how difficult the fit is.

Custom Wheel Building

Shopping for a new set of wheels? Got your eyes on the new Mavic R-Sys Premium wheelset? Make sure that you get the wheelset that is right for you by stopping by the shop and talking to us about all of your options. There are a lot of great machine built wheels on the market, like the Mavic R-Sys Premium wheels, but custom built wheels can be just as stiff, as light or lighter, and at a significantly cheaper price. The biggest advantage to custom wheels is that they are customizable for your riding style and for whatever needs you have for your new wheelset, not to mention, most shops stock a variety of spoke lengths so if you are in a pinch and for whatever reason break a spoke you can get back on the road or trail quickly. We have access to the best products available from companies like DT Swiss, Chris King, Shimano, Campagnolo, Zipp Speed Weaponry, and Wheelsmith just to name a few. So now that you are curious, come by the store and let us help you pick out the wheel components to build a set of wheels that will suit your needs whether it is for road riding, mountain biking, cyclocross racing, or any other need you have for bicycle wheels.

Tubular Tire Gluing

Want to use the tires that the professional road and cyclocross racers use? Try a set of tubular tires and rims. Sure, tubular tires do have their downside, cost, installation headaches, carrying a whole tire with you, but the pros outweigh the cons. With tubular tires you will have lighter wheel and tire interface when comparing apples to apples and they handle and ride better. A lot of shops will not glue tubular tires just because they do not want to deal with it, or in some cases, do not know how to install them properly. But we do not have a problem with gluing on your tubular tires. We can even glue on those pesky cyclocross tires as well. If you have a preference of what kind of glue you want to use we will accommodate you however we can. Though, we have our preferences too. So if you need a new set of tires, or are looking to get a set of tubular tires for the first time, we can get you going with tubular tires from companies such as Continental, Challenge, Tufo, and Vittoria.

Suspension Service

One of the most important weapons of any mountain biker's arsenal is his suspension. This is almost always one of the most neglected parts of a mountain bike as well. Riders will usually wait to bring their suspension forks and rear shocks in to a shop when they are having a problem. Your suspension needs regular maintenance, like your drivetrain, as well. Most shops send suspension forks and rear shocks back to the factory or to a service center for maintenance or repair because they do not know how to work on them, or they just do not want to deal with the mess. But most suspension maintenance and service can be completed in the shop, and that is what we do. It is not only a quicker turn around time for customer, but it is almost always cheaper because we take out the middle man. Though, there are some instances where the shock must go back to the factory and we can take the hassle out of this for you as well. Feel free to bring your suspension forks or rear shocks in for regular maintenance or to fix a problem you are having with it. Keep in mind a lot companies stop making replacement and service parts 3 to 5 years after they quit making that particular model, but a lot of times we will still have parts to keep you on the trails. Some of the suspension forks and rear shocks that we can service are from companies like Cane Creek, Manitou, Fox Racing Shox, Rock Shox, DT Swiss, and Marzocchi.
